Octavia Carbon

Octavia Carbon, founded in 2022 and based in Nairobi, Kenya, is the first direct air capture (DAC) company in the Global South. The company focuses on designing, building, and deploying DAC technology to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere, utilizing Kenya's renewable energy resources and geological advantages. Octavia aims to reduce DAC costs while promoting socio-economic growth in the region.The company's proprietary DAC process employs a low-temperature swing adsorption system that operates efficiently with low-grade geothermal heat, which is abundant in Kenya's Rift Valley. Captured CO₂ is either permanently stored in geological formations or converted into climate-neutral products. Octavia has partnered with Carbonfuture to implement a digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV) system, ensuring transparency in carbon removal claims. Their pilot project, Project Hummingbird, aims to capture and store over 10,000 tons of CO₂ over ten years, showcasing their scalable DAC solutions. Octavia targets corporations seeking high-integrity carbon removal credits, emphasizing local workforce development and job creation.
