We're looking for a Senior
Mechanical Designer to join our Barrie team!
You'll take ownership of
mechanical design across a variety of projects, leading your own scope with
limited supervision and working closely with engineers, project leads and
clients from early design through permit and construction.
This posting is for upcoming opportunities that may arise as our team continues to grow!
What you’ll do
Work
with Engineers, Project and Technical Leads, other designers, and clients
to produce detailed design documents, and support projects through all
phases - including permit and construction (RFIs and site questions).
Act as
Project and/or Technical Lead role as assigned by the Discipline Director.
Manage
your assigned scope with limited supervision, tracking your deliverables
and meeting deadlines.
Set up
drawings in AutoCAD and/or Revit to Gerrits’ CAD standards, and create
drawings, specifications, schematics, system layouts, and other technical
documents.
Perform
calculations and complete equipment sizing and selection in coordination
with the Lead Engineer.
Evaluate
design approaches and recommend the most effective option - how one system
decision affects others (e.g., energy use, controls, and spatial
constraints) and to constructability before issues reach site.
Review
drawings and specifications for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
with Gerrits’ design standards and applicable codes, and flag risks,
missing information, or inconsistencies before issuance.
Communicate
design intent clearly to engineers, project managers, and clients.
Visit
sites independently or with team members to document observations,
compliance, and deficiencies, meet with clients or their representatives,
and prepare field reports.
What you bring
Post-secondary
education in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
6+
years of experience in a Designer role.
Advanced Revit skills, plus AutoCAD and
Microsoft Office.
Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and
hydronic systems, and of the Ontario Building Code and related industry
standards.
Experience
in electrical design is considered an asset.
Strong
time management and organizational skills - you set and meet deadlines
across multiple projects.
Clear
written and verbal communication, and the critical thinking to spot issues
and suggest solutions.
Leadership
skills that reflect our Core Values, including motivating yourself and
others and collaborating as a team.
Comfortable
spending most of your day on design work at a computer, with travel for
site visits.
What we offer:
Work
alongside Professional Engineers, Engineering Interns, Designers,
Drafters, and more.
A
37.5-hour work week.
Hybrid
work environment.
A
salary that reflects your experience and qualifications (see Compensation

A
comprehensive Total Rewards package, including Canada Life benefits, a
MyHSA spending account, and an optional GRSP/DPSP program.
Opportunities
to get involved in charitable initiatives throughout the year.
Ongoing
support for your professional development and growth.
